13/42 chain wear

RE: 13/42 chain wear
My friend just changed both his sprockets and chain for the first time DRZ400 @ 10,000kms ..his front sprocket was toast though..I'm hoping to get 5000-7500kms out of my chain and rear sprocket..but with that in mind..I may consider factory front sprovket and just upping the rear to a 45 tooth and getting a 108 link chain..and hopefully with that set-up, all of the adjustment will be used..I believe 14/45 is the same ratio as 13/42 or pretty close anyway
green242..I worked in the valley from Jan 04 until Jan 06 in Waterville..came home every week-end off so I passed your town every couple weeks.

RE: 13/42 chain wear
Finally I made it home, man I'm getting behind in all of this stuff. OK here you go, I changed my 14-42 setup almost 4,000 miles ago, and not only do both sprockets look brand new still but the chain does too. I think its has a lot to do with how much sand and mud you ride in, how aggressive you are clutching and how well you maintain bu keeping the chain up to the proper adjustment and lubrication. There.......now I feel better. Do you guys know how hard it is to be reading all of these posts on the way home and not being able to contribute? Its like putting a sign language interpreter in a straight jacket.

RE: 13/42 chain wear
6100 miles total on my bike, the last 2000 have been with the 13/42 setup. I've adjusted itonce but I couldn't get it where I wanted when I initially put it on. It was too tight or adjusting one click it was close to being too loose. After a few hundred miles it was too loose and the 1 click brought it in again. I'm pretty happy with it but when I go to the 331cc I'll be going back to the stock gearing, maybe even 15/42 if it will pull it with any authority.
