Agree. Trying to splice off the minimal size wiring in the harness up around the triple clamp area isn't the best option. It's better for an accessory power outlet to have its own dedicated power supply with a heavier wire fused right from the battery. You can also get some heavy duty heat shrink to wrap the two wires and/or a small diameter spiral wrap to protect them. deej's suggestion of using the accessory outlet is also a good idea for using a battery tender, and you can even keep the battery topped off out in the field from your camping/travel/towing vehicle in camp through that socket via the vehicle battery. This can be really helpful during cold weather camping and riding.

cigar socket has potential of a high load device being plugged into it, so I agree that it should be fused and wired directly to the battery. Fuse should be near the battery in case the wiring short or grounds.

I did the same as Deej (no, I didn't WASH my bike again today...) I put the pigtail at the battery end. It just sticks out over my coolant tank. I originally put it there to trickle charge the battery, but then I found a cool 12v socket that plugs right into it.
