09 KLX250s preformance stats after break in
My 09 KLX250s just went over 500 miles so I consider the break in is complete.
Fuel consumption on last 4 tanks of gas was, 67, 69, 70, 71 MPG.
I did a top speed WOT test on I95 in Virginia between exit 126 and exit 118. The following results are indicated speedometer readings as I crossed the milage markers.
Mile marker 123, 88mph; 122, 90mph; 121, 90mph; 120, 91mph; 119, 88mph
I also did an uphill acceleation test. I put a starting line at the bottom of a moderatly steep hill and a finnish line marker at the top of the hill aproxometly .25 miles apart. I crossed the start line at 60mph, started my stop watch, and fully opened the throttle. Then I noted the speed and time when crossing the finnish line. I repeated 5 times. The finnish times and speeds were:
15.09 sec @ 62mph
15.00 sec @ 63mph
14.90 sec @ 64mph
14.75 sec @ 64mph
14.72 sec @ 64mph
This is a completely stock bike.
This weekend I will install the stage 1 dynojet kit and repeat these tests.

If you have an iPod Phone OR an iPod touch, try Dynolicious. It is an Application that uses the built in accelerometers. It will tell you your Quarter mile time and 0-60 times. it works great. Dynolicious « BunsenTech, LLC

It was windy today and I was begining to think I would not get to do my testing, as I was afraid the wind would effect the results.
Finally around 7:00pm the wind died down and I was ready to go.
Full throttle max speed test:
mile marker 123, 88mph; 122, 88mph; 121, 89mph; 120, 90mph; 119, 87mph.
I lost about 1 mph compaired to stock.
Uphill throttle roll on test:
14.62 sec @ 66mph
14.40 sec @ 67mph
14.37 sec @ 68mph
14.59 sec @ 67mph
14.41 sec @ 67mph
I gained about .4 sec and 3mph here.
Any idea on why I had no increase in top speed, yet could pull the hill faster?
Other notes:
The bike used to have a little sputter and surge when cruising at moderate speeds, like it was starved for gas. Now it cruises much better at all speeds, very smooth and confedent.
The bike now needs no warm up time. Just a few seconds after starting it, I can push the choke in and take off.
I think this may be a bad thing, as a carburated engine should have to warm up before running well unchoked.
I'm thinking of either moving the clip to the first or second notch on the needle, or putting back the stock needle, or putting back the stock spring.
Any suggestions?
Craig
