Hello Frampton,
As I stated earlier I live in Fairbanks, Alaska. The elevation on my GPS shows me to be around 450 feet above sea level. I hope that helps.
I have also bump/push started the KLX a few times as well. Those pesky hills have only one negative... you have to be at the top when the bike dies.

I hear you. I had to get to work, so getting it running was a high priority. Riding the KLX for a year let me save enough for the kicker and a car and a KTM200(which kicks over on the 2nd or 3rd try at the most)!

I have a kicker on mine and only by kicking was I able to start it after this year's winter slumber. Fully charged battery ran down to zip but the kicker got it done.
I've also been way out on the trail and went through deep enough water to snuff teh carb (factory vents) and about killed that battery too.
I've been glad to have the kicker on mine.
