'09 can question... opening up the tip?
Did a quick search, found a couple things, but I wanted to ask straight-up about the stock 2009 can.
I'm stll a noob and haven't found the need for stupid more power... but I hate riding such a quiet bike. I guess because my dad's DRZ is loud as all get-out I feel insecure with such a quiet pipe...
I don't know what the inside of the muffler looks like... but we were wondering... could you cut out the stock exhaust tip and bolt / weld on a bigger tip? I'm thinking, cut out a hole about 3/4 of the diameter of the end of the muffler, and then bolt on an "Ebay tip" to the end of it. The stock hole is about the size of a dime. I'm sure power gain would be minimal if any at all, but I think it would be a fair amount louder.
Anyone know any flaws to this idea? Or should I spring for a can off a 300 from sleezebay? Down the road I'll open up the airbox and rejet the carb, but I don't plan on dropping massive $$$ on a full exhaust.

I just wasnt sure if some integral part of the muffler was located right inside the tip, since we'd be hacking open the end and then running bolts to hold on the new tip.

So our current gameplan is to buy a metalhole saw and just drill a bigger hole out than the stock one. Anyone know any major flaws in this plan? I just can't justify $300+ for a new can when all I really want is a louder pipe.

from pictures off this forum it looks like you will waist the sparkarester when you do anyting to the back of the can so if you dont need it, I would cut the back off gut it completely. While you have the back off you could cut the bigger hole and weld back any size pipe you want.
