Default 07 KLX250S Billet shifters

Hey guys i was wondering where i can buy a billet shifter for my bike. As long as they ship to Australia. Iv bent and snapped 3 forged alloy ones so far and its really starting to add up. Iv had a look around and many months ago i found a place in Australia that sold them but now i cant. Any help would be great as i wont be able to ride untill i get another and im not about to was another $40odd on an alloy one.
Cheers.

Will this billet shifter be stiffer and less likely to bend? I've seen them on some road and sportbikes, but I've never run one on a dirtbike. If they're really stiff, you may bend or damage the shifer shaft or internal parts if the shifter doesn't give. I like maleable steel ones that don't often break or snap, and you can usually even bend them back to workable shape to complete a ride or trip. I use one made for an XR650L from MSR. It's cheap, durable, and a tiny bit longer for easier boot manipulation...or just bigger feet. I'd rather have my shifter be the sacrificial part in an impact rather than the shift shaft or internal parts. And at what I'm seeing as around $65-$75, that seems kind of expensive for what may still end up being a disposable part if you ride hard.

Just curious...how are you breaking so many shifters? I ride in very rocky terrain as a normal course, and I've only slightly tweaked my MSR steel shifter a couple of times in over 3 years.

I understand where your coming from and now ill have to reconsider this. Everytime i lay the bike over it bends, i straighten it and it gets weaker. I havnt had this bikle even for a year. I ride in every terrain but snow. Yesterdays ride, only a few hours i hit everything but snow. The bike was laid over 3 times yesterday. Everytime was on the left side. First was underestimating a mud rut, Started rut jumping before laying it in the mud, clay, what ever was under the water. The second i launched off a log that had fallen over the track, just landed wrong and and layed it over on the harded compact clay. The last stack was launching the bike off a whoop and landing into a massive mud/clay/water pit and losing it and slide on the left side for about 20m.

Im a ***** out rider and broke more then the shifter yesterday and many other rides. But its not just one terrain i go through.

Shortly after getting my bike and bending my stock shift lever I wanted to stiffen it or get a beefier one. I posted about it, and someone made the point about sacrificing the lever, or the internals. To me it made sense to let the lever bend before breaking anything inside. I ended up buying the MSR lever for the Honda 650L (same lever TNC mentions above) and haven't had any trouble with it. Sometimes I wonder if it is actually too beefy.

That looks like the right one. I dont think the year matters but you do have to make sure you have the "L" after the 650 "650L"
I have a pic of a comparison but I am having trouble with photobucket so I cant find it for you. I think you have to bend the 650L lever out just a tad to give more clearance.

As far as how close you can get the MSR lever to the engine, or otherwise, the shifter is maleable enough that you can bend it a bit to suit your preference.

Thats the result of a 20m Slide with me still under it in clay. Most of the bends were near the case. Hopfully this one recommend works well.
