Yeah, we run with 39T from the factory with the 17" wheels.

The D-tracker comes stock with 14T front and 39T rear. That works out to somewhere under 6000 RPM at 60mph...around 5900, if I remember correctly.

I installed a 15T front on after going to 300cc/Wiseco piston and now cruise at about 5400 to maintain 60MPH. Not recommended for stock displacement though as you won't be able to handle even the smallest hill without down-shifting.

This has been tried by someone with an 09 who thought it might be different due to 6th gear ratio being moved closer to fifth, but in the end, he still didn't have enough power with the stock displacement.

 

Yeah I remember being curious about that. It seemed doable but not really worth it.

Could I use a stock chain with the smaller rear sprocket?

Yes you can however you would more than likely have to remove a link. When I put the 45 on I had to get a longer chain

 

If it's just 1 link maybe I could get away with just adjusting chain tension. Only 1 way to find out! The wheels are in the mail and I have a 39t sprocket coming too.

 

What size and type drill bit should I use? I have a drill press with a 1/2" chuck.
