$78 in gas over the last 6-months
I use an iPhone app to track my mileage. For the last 6-months I've only spent $78 in gas. How fricken cool is that! I used to spend that much in just one fill-up of my truck.

That's originally why I got my bike. I tripled my mpg over my car. I was spending $300/month on gas, my bike payment w/insurance plus gas is around $200/month, so I have an extra $100/month and a bike.

i thought because of the frequent maintenance needs, the klx250 might cost more (probably would be if i had dealer/shop do all the work), but if i do my own work, klx250 saves me more money...and, with less depreciation in value..klx250 wins...

It's nothing fancy, but it's free and does the trick.

Well today I hit the one year mark of tracking my mileage. Granted, my daily commute is about 6 miles round trip but it's still impressive. I've only spent $176.47 in gas for the entire year, half of which was premium gas. Larga vida the KLX!

I think one of the craziest examples of great fuel mileage and costs is that new Honda NC700X twin roadbike. At that displacement...just short of 700cc...it has an amazing ability to yield awesome fuel mileage. The ability to get mileage in the 70's per gallon for a decently sized twin is impressive. Yes, a little apples-to-oranges as far as the KLX is concerned.

I'll make some assumptions here:
$3.25 cost of gas per gallon
60 miles per gallon
$78 / $3.25 = 24 gallons
24 gallons * 60 miles per gallon = 1440 total miles traveled
1440 / 26 (weeks in 6 months) = 55 miles per week
You need to get out more and maybe spend more on gas!

It is pretty cool, depending on how many miles you ride (you didn't say).
