Just hit the 363 mile on my lime green mule 06 kl650 and happy as can be. Been on road, dirt, sugar sand, climbing, water, mud, ruts, fireroads, tight woodsy trails and man this thing flys, jumps, wheelies, rips the mud and sand,. weight is not a problem for me. Got in some heavy mud once, picked up the rear tire, jumped back on and off I went. Gotta love this thing. I think there is not other bike like it. Money, power, weight, gas tank limits, style, torque. Just soo much for the bang for your buck. I like the drz400, but having this 650 is much much more pleasing to me. Well im off to go tinker with the mule.

Yep, the KLR650 is a great bike. I love mine.

Take care and visit often.

I also got an 06 KLR 650. GREAT COMFORTABLE FREAKIN BIKE! Unlike you, I am staying within the under 4000 RPM break-in that is recommended until the 500 mile maitenance. I certainly hope it is worth it, because it is BORING! LOL, it really is. It is a very comfortable bike, and I have read many reviews of it. So far my longest street trek is about 31 miles(there and fro), and except for the cold, it wasn't at all tiring. I can see going long distance on this thing in the future. I am sure I willl catch up to you soon with the MUD, SAND, and WHEELIES! Any ideas of how to get a little more noise out of the muffler and gain a lil power? Althought the throttle response is excellant. I really love this thing. I have owned many bikes, and this is by far my favorite. I have mostly owned cruisers, and since, in the past I have always taken these down the trails and even jumped them, I thought a comfortable enduro would be a better choice this time. Getting air on a full fairing bike is kinda well tough on the rump. LOL

Happy and safe trails!

Are you guys running stock tires - I imagine you would considering you bought brand new bikes. I'm just curious as the Dunlop 606 and 607's would be great in the dirt. I'm still so confused as to what to purchase. I thought my mind was made up until I saw the KLX250S but then I look at the fuel tank, and the engine size and then I lose focus. Someone help me. I like fire roads, unexplored stuff - etc. I'm not into jumps etc. so maybe the 650 is the way to go. I dunno. Anyway... whatever help you'd like to offer, i'd be indebted. I'm on all the forums - might be the cause of my problem!! haha. Anyway... take care and talk soon.

I'm running the stock Dunlop 603's on my KLX250, I think they are fine and I will probably try the 606's once these wear out. Oh yeah I put a rim lock in the back wheel so I can run lower pressure, I'm running 18 psi atm will more than likey drop it next time I get into the mud

Hey guys...new to the forum here too. I was just reading this article and thought I would put my 2 cents in.
I have a 1985 Suzuki SP600 (dinosaur!) that I run the 606's on. I commute alsphalt, trail ride, fireroads in WVa, and dirt ride anywhere from local farms to Hatfield trails and similar. They have done extremely well for me, handle the road great, and get me out of most everything I can find to get into. Also get around 5K out of them...riding pretty hard on the slab.
I called today to order a new KLR650, and I think the first thing I will do is put a tall windshield on (I'm 6'5") and put a set of D606's I have in my storage shed on, since they are the same size. They have really impressed me!
Hope this helps!

Yes I am running stock tires. I have about 1500 miles on it now, and the rear is showing some wear. I think it will probably last another 1500, then I will do some research. Welcome!
