I'm here, too -- had an 04 KLR250, now have an 05 KLR250, and also just got an 06 KLX250S.
I love light dual-sports that will go anywhere, even though I mostly road-ride them these days, because so many of my old local places are built-up now -- gotta go further and further to find any off-road fun in my area. But, hey, a little is better than none at all.

Hey guys, can you tell me the absolute top speed on your KLR250s? What's the highest speed you can comfortably cruise the highway on? Thanks a lot, looking to buy one myself.

I'm not sure what a KLR is, but as far as smooth riding down the road, I took my KLX up to 65 and it was smooth. the only thing I forgot how much wind resistance there was. My Yamaha 650 and 750 specials had a ferring so the wind just went right over the top of me. Anyway it rides smooth, and at 65 I still had one more gear.

I've had my KLR250's (both) up to over 90+ mph, before backing off the throttle -- will cruise effortlessly at 65-70 too, but are happier at 60-65.

Hmm, how does it compare to a KLR650 on the highway? I'm sure I'll mostly be cruising on the highway between 65-75, occasionally a little quicker . I really wanted to buy a 650, but there's a 2004 KLR250 for sale in my area for $2,500. I just wanted to know if you guys can tell me how it sizes up next to a 650; advantages and disadvantages. The cruising speed is pretty important to me. Thanks a lot for all of your help. - Vin

Hmmmm I guess I have a lot to learn about the Kawasaki bikes. So the KLR is the older version of the KLX? Also it looks like the KLR is not water cooled is that right? The new 2006 KLX has inverted forks, and a few other differences, maybe we should have someone that know more list the differences between the KLX and the KLR.

Here's a website of the 05 KLR250 -- 05 is the last year they make them in THIS country, after 15 years, and replaced it for 06 with the KLX250S which has been available for many years both here and in other countries, too.

If you want to do highway speeds on a reg basis, and don't mind the extra 80 -100 lbs, the 650 will probably work, but What I like about the 250 it it feels like someone took a dirt bike and put blinkers on it , I really like the combination. And the tires are real diggers.
