Cam chain noise

Cam chain noise
Hello! I just got a 99 KLR250 with 6300 miles. It has a noisy cam chain when cold but goes away after warmed up. Does any one know if this is normal? It was checked out by a mechanic and he said it was, but wanted to check with some other bike owners. Thanks, Doug in Ind. Ks.

RE: Cam chain noise
Watch out, as i have observed thatthe automatictensioners in these things are very delicate and occasionally stop functioning properly(springs become too weak and sometimes unwind), to be on the safe side i would just buy a new tensoner, it shouldnt cost too much and will most likely fix your problem. But to be cirtain get your mechanic to take a look.
hope this helps
Good luck!!

RE: Cam chain noise
That's not all that bad. when your engine warms up the tolerances on the cam chain can tighten up and get rid of the noise. My KLX did that for about 1000 miles and then as soon as the chain tensioner grabbed another notch it went away even on the cold start.
