Smile Dumb question, smart answer?

Hi people,

I'm new to this forum and just have a question that I'm hoping someone could answer.

It's regarding a Kawasaki 454 ltd. I've had it for a year, and it doesn't have a fuel guage (thats just how these models are built), so I've always just topped up the fuel every approx 80-90km's. Couple of times, I've forgotten, and had to use the reserve gas for a bit.

In a couple weeks I will be doing a road trip from Burnaby, BC to Castlegar, BC (about 700km total) and stopping every 90km or so to fill up, however there are a few spots where the highway goes 115-140km (between hope and princeton, for instance) with no gas station stops...

I'm just curious if anyone knows how many highway km's (as i know its different from city driving) the 454 can go without needing a fill-up as I would hate to run out of gas in an unfamiliar area, and i don't know the exact amt as I've tried to just keep it topped up.

Please help!

Thanks!

You can usually get about 25 miles on a reserve tank no matter what ride it is. Unless someone changed the tank or your burning gas like crazy you should have no problems getting 175 highway miles, altho I havent tried the 454. If you are really worried about it you can carry some extra fuel with you, shouldnt take more than a small bottle to get you to the next station if you run out. Enjoy the ride!

Welcome to KF!

You should be using your trip meter along with your gallons used to estimate your normal range. My ex500 is being tested right now, so far on a 1000 mile run, I am averaging 60 mpg. I have another 1k miles or so remaining but should have a better idea for this ride. I would think that the ltd should be in the same area concerning mileage but with a smaller tank. Good luck on the trip and learning curve.

You should get better mileage on the open road. Ride the bike till it's empty and use your odometer to work out how far you can go.
