600mile service cost
After getting what I concider a great deal on an 06' VN900 I found myself shocked at price of the 600mile oil change (service), $235. I was just curious what others paid and if anyone went to Fay Myers here in Denver I'd really be interested in your price. Thanks!

RE: 600mile service cost
I prepaid my first two years of service, but my receipt today said that I would have been charged 183.00 for the service. I'd say the price you were quoted was not out of line. It isn't just an oil change...there are several things they go through, but it isn't anything you couldn't do if you took your time and had minimal mechical aptitude and a garage.

RE: 600mile service cost
I was wondering the same thing, I have a 900 Custom right now, and just remember it was only $60 for my 2005 500R post break-in service last summer. So, $235 seems like a killing to me, but then again, I haven't gotten it done yet on my 900.

RE: 600mile service cost
Took my 900 Custom in for the first service, changed oil & filter, checked a few things. tire pressure, drive belt tension. Took less than an hour and they told me the first service was free. I watched them so I can change my own next time. Gary

RE: 600mile service cost
The first service is basically to change the oil (primarily to get any "break-in" particulates out of the engine) and to check fluids and cam chain tensioning (just to make sure it's as it should be.) You can do all of this yourself and save a bundle of money, as well as to put in a preferred engine oil versus the dealer discount brand. I'm not suggesting a warranty is a bad thing, especially if you dropped major cash on a new bike. I've never had a new bike; I prefer the "bike in a box" variety, so I know a.) how it was assenbled, and b.) if something goes wrong I likely already know what it is and it's my own fault. Plus, I'm cheap.
