RE: Just Finished KFX400!!!
HAHA, thats kinda funny, but so true. I forgot about the powdercoating, frame and a few other things BTW!!
The frame will hopefully be stripped this winter and sent to BARE IND. to get gusseted and powdercoated a blue to match the graphics. The front and rear hubs, the handlebars, calipers, and a few of the engine parts (valve cover, water pump, etc) will be pc'ed blue as well. The bumper, nerf bars, grab bar, oil tank, pipe heat shield, aluminum airbox (not installed), frame guards (not ordered) will be pc'ed a flat black.
(I also forgot about a steering stabilizer, parking brake blockoff, relocated reverse switch, and a hydraulic clutch setup)
(I'm sure I'm still missing stuff from the list)
OKAY, now you can help me!!
It's just so addicting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!

RE: Just Finished KFX400!!!
Well, I've decided to go ahead and try a little racing next season. In preparation for that, I stripped the bike down (again) and gussetted the frame and am currently getting some powdercoating done.
I sent the frame back to oklahoma (since Virginia prices are ridiculous for powdercoating) and met it when I went home for the holidays. My dad and I spent 3 days cutting gussets and welding them in place. (My dad works in a metal shop BTW) Anyways, I think it turned out pretty good.
It's at the powdercoating shop for some candy blue at the moment.
Here's some updated pictures:
Teardown
Stripped Frame
Layout
FLat Iron
Shock Tower Braces
Tubing
Subframe
Headstay
Shock Tower Braces Installed
Flat Iron Installed
Tubes Installed
Mount for Steering Stabilizer

RE: Just Finished KFX400!!!
Thanks alot!! I'm trying to make it indestructable without adding too much weight. All together the gussets added a little over 4lbs. So not too bad.
I can't wait to see how the Candy Blue turns out!!

RE: Just Finished KFX400!!!
Well the powdercoating is halfway done. All of the candy blue stuff anyway. I should get the frame back sometime next week. The rest that will get a satin black just got dropped off today, so I still have a bit of time on my hands.
That being said, I decided to polish my entire engine. Being that it is completely aluminum, it should turn out nice. I bought some 100, 320, 1000, and 1500 grit sandpaper and have started taking down the castings on the aluminum to get it down to a smooth finish. I then have a dremel with several different size buffing pads and some buffing compound.
All in all this should take me about a month I think, working on and off. I'm sure it would be alot easier just to have it chromed, but I hate chrome, I think it looks kinda cheap. Hopefully a completely polished motor will stand out good against the candy blue and satin black.
Wish me luck!!!

RE: Just Finished KFX400!!!
Just got my Powdercoating Back!! Hopefully I'll get some of it put back together this weekend. The only real holdup is me finishing Polishing the motor. I'm pretty sure I could put 2 more months into that thing if I wanted to!!!
(P.S. Don't polish you motors, it sucks)
The Color's are CANDY BLUE and SATIN BLACK.
I think It will look pretty good with the motor all polished. I also have a friend designing a new set of graphics for me.
Anyways, here's some pics in the living room.
