86 ninja 600r need help
I have a 1986 ninja 600r, It was given to me in rough condition. I have rebuilt the carbs and the pepcock and can now start it when fuel is set to PRI. However Idling and crusing are still desired.
I got a manual that is not very helpfull. No pictures of vac and fuel lines.I like pictures!
I believe I have vac probsmost likley becausethe hoses are not connected or connected improperly.
I have 4 ports on the front of each carb pointing up.
I have 2 ports in between the two sets of carbs they rotate pointing twards the rear
and one port in the middle lower back sideit to rotates (main fuel line) im guessing it seems to fill the floats..
I currently have the two outside ports on the top going twards the front to a vac hose i think...
the center 2 are going nowhere
and the 2 inbetween the sets of carbs are connected together
Could someone be kind and tell me where to stick the hoses besides the obvious...
All this is due to a lack of knowledge. It is begging me to ride it.
Thank you,
Joe

The 1 in the middle lower is the main fuel line.
2 of the ports on top are for the fresh air to the air box. 1 of the other ports should be capped off and the other 1 is for a vacum from the petcock. At least that is the way the carbs are on my ZRX. If you don't have an airbox, just cap off those ports.
When you had the carbs off, did you notice to see if the plugs for the A/F screws were off. If the bike has a pipe and has been
re-jetted, they were. See how many turns the screws are out. They may have been tampered with. Turn them all out 2 1/2 - 3 turns to start. Then fine tune from there. I can give you some directions how to do this if needed.

RE: 86 ninja 600r need help
Well in my haste I did not clean nor inspect the jets so I will probaly be takingthe carbs apart again
It started yesterday with minimal effort less than 5 minutes..
But today it did not start with lots of effort. I generally have to cover the air intake on the back of the carbs untill gas splashes on my hand before it will even attempt to start. Its most likely flooded by then.
When I have the pepcock set to pri ant try to start it seems to dump a lot of gas out the back of the carbsand leaks all down the bike and on floor. Is this normal?
excuese my ignoranceare the carbs mechanical? or vac driven or both.. if i open throttle should it not squirt gas? from the float tank? at least during the physical action of opening the throttle? and then be vac sustaining.
I would like to get this bike running.
Im assuming my prob is in the carbs have not done a compression test...
once the bike is started and warmed up seems to do ok just does not like to start at all.
I will take any advice on where I should start as of now I will probally yank the carb assebly
check the jets and set them per the manual
I will take KevyzToy up on his offer to give me directions..
Anyway im done with it for today tired of stinking of gas

Thankyou KevyzToy again for the help... I got it starting now.. thanks to your help..
still having some issues...
bike will idle between 1500 and 2000 rpm and less thyan that and it goes clunk clunk.... clunk blahhhhhh then I have the joy or restarting.
Also when I rev the engine the rpm kinda sticks
example if i rev it to 5000 rpm and reverse throttle it takes some time for it to return to 2000 rpm sometimes take a rev or two before it will come back down.
Airflow ? Airbox????

Well once again ... I tried to start this morning... and failed.... Killed the battery tring.
Same as orginal problem damn thing will not start when cold... unless I yank theair boxput my hand over the carbs until gas splashes on my hand. The choke apears to be functioning.
Last night I had it starting over and over with minimul effort but it was warmed up...
HELP !!!

I also just noticed once battling it to get it started... when it was running with airbox off when I rev it
I see gas mist blowing into the air out twarts the airbox shouldn't that be going into the engine as opposed to out in the airbox?
This thing is really starting to frustrate me.....

Well I have it down to a science now.. when its cold if I pat the carbs 2 or 3 times it gets enough gas to start.
As long as im careful not to flood it.
The choke i think is working mechanicaly at least I see it phyicly move on each carb and when the engine is running
at 2000 rpm with choke off when i turn it on in bogs out instantly.
I will take any help I can get...
Sweet baby jesus!!! Its a engine that runs on gas how frikin hard can it be !!!!!
Guess im just an idiot....
