I'm about to buy a new battery for my SX-R 800 2008. I was wondering if some brands are better than others? Before i had a Yuasa YTX20L-BS i didn't take proper care of it and it recently kicked the bucket.

As well i was curious, will a battery that requires 1.8amps x 10hrs charge properly on a charger that's closest option is 2amps on trickle charge?

 

I would stick to the Yuasa, there is not much you can do with these batteries maintenance wise.

I have never had any probs with them apart from my last ski which had an MSD water injection system fitted to it and it seemed to drain the battery.

If you laying it up over winter I would remove it and put it in a cupboard in the house to keep it away from the elements.. Only prob with the sxr is its a pain having to take the air intake off to get the battery out haha

If you have to charge it up during the summer on a stock ski there is defo something wrong with the battery..

 

Thanks i think I'll stick with the Yuasa it served me well until i screwed it up.

I did have the battery indoors and away from the freezing weather, the manual says to keep it charged during the winter periodically... opps i definitely didn't do that.

Yeah removing the air intake every time i have to remove the battery is a huge pain in the butt.

To be honest I would not have even bothered to try charging it if it was in the house, what type of trickle charger are you using? There may be some life left in it yet you know.

Its best not to keep them on a trickle charge very long as it causes problems with the battery and damages them over time, if you need to trickle charge it just put it onto charge a day or two before you need the ski.

I use the optimate 3 really easy to use and also has LED lights on it to give you status if the battery is ok and also tests it during charging. I think its the optimate 4 that is on sale now..

edit: Notice its on a 2008 ski, you really should get more years than that out of it. my sxr is a 2006 and still has the original.

 

A battery tender/maintainer will do the job for you, you can leave it on all winter.
