I have a 97 stx900 that has never had any problems as long as we owned it. Oil has always been kept full and on last trip oil light came on as we were putting it on the trailer. Is there a sending unit that could have failed or is the pump the most likely culprit here? Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to come up with!

No warnings are given on pump failures, unfortunately you will not know till too late. Good advise I have is if the ski is 8-10 years old. While having the sending unit on the oil tank replaced have the dealer replace the lines to the carbs from the pump with Kawasaki OEM lines. I have seen them break after several years and cause major engine problems. Run premixed fuelat 2 OZ of oil per gal of gas for first tank full after lines are replaced to avoid engine seizure. There will be some air in lines till engine has run for a bit.
Hope this helps,

I have just replaced the engine in my 97 STX 900, the replacement engine is used so no break-in needed. however I don't trust the oil pump so I want to pre-mix the gas. The service manual refers to a 50:1 ratio while testing the pump, would this also be the correct ratio if I'm not going to use the oil pump?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
