2000 Kawasaki 900 STX Overheat Alarm
Overheat alarm almost always active, on trailer or in water. Engine stays in limp mode while alarm is active. This is not a cooling problem. It is a control circuit problem. Tested the Water temp sensor okay - closed at 200 degrees on the stove top. Removed water temp sensor from system. Inspected all associated wiring and connectors. Visually inspected CDI unit. According to wiring diagram there are 4 relevant components to the cooling sensor circuit: 1) Water Temp Sensor 2) Wiring harness 3) Multifunction Meter (instrument panel) 4) CDI unit. I have ruled out the Water Temp Sensor and the Wiring Harness. Is the CDI unit likely culprit for a false overheat alarm?
