Default What am I missing, lol

I recently purchased a 02 prairie 300 4x4. The previous owner had let his son take it on a weekend trip, and while out lost the key. Instead of his son ending his trip, he had one of his friends hard wire it. Meanwhile, he purchased a new (used) ignition switch and cdi box (had it running, and just died, back of cdi box looked like gravel poking out). But he hasnt been able to get it to run. So, he gave me a pretty good deal on it, considering it doesnt run. His son doesnt remember what was done to it, and him and his buddy that done the hard wiring have fell apart and are not speaking. This is the first kawasaki I've owned, and its killing me to get it going. Anywase, I've attached a pic, and am wondering if you all could tell me what was missing, or what needs changed. When you turn the key on, no lights (headlight, or neutral) come on. You also cannot pull start. Now, with the key on, you can connect the red wire to the white wire and here a clicking sound coming from some sort of relay or fuse (round, covered in rubber sleeve, under starter solenoid in pic), still no lights with this connected. Any ideas?

My brother and I just came back in from tinkering around on it. With jumper cables hooked up, red and white wire together and key on. Hand brake lights work(no foot brake light), no head lights, and the reverse neutral light both are on, but very dim. When you turn head light switch or hit the start button, the reverse light goes out and the neutral light gets brighter. Im thinking it sounds like a ground problem. Also, when you turn the headlight switch on, the reverse light goes out, and neutral gets brighter. My brother just told me that there should be a fuse between the red and white wire, but we seem confused as to why they would have a red and white connecting. But orig owner may have used a red wire because thats all he had. Anywase, any help is appreciated.

Welcome to KF

If you plan on keeping this ride, get yourself the factory service manual.....the wiring diagram in that manual alone will help you out with your endeavor. I would hate to guess without actually seeing the diagram.

Good luck
