Weird idle

Weird idle
I have a 2003 ZX6R(636) over the weekend i got a new throttle cable so i was changing that out, and when i pulled off the throttle bodies they were pretty dirty so i used some carb cleaner and pipe cleaner and cleaned them all up nicely. then i installed the new cables and put it all back together. Once i got it all hooked back up i turned the bike on and now it is idling at 1500 and i cant get it to go down. So i moved the gas tank off the bike but it was still connected i turned it back on and started playing with the throttle bodies i didnt adjust anything to make it so it would idle higher. and they do close all the way when i let off the throttle. If there was a leak in my intake somewhere (a hose or something) would this make it idle at that? and my idle adjuster doesn't even touch the throttles so i know it isn't that, and there isn't anything stopping them from closing all the way. any help would be great thanks.

Oh and i have ordered a new choke cable but when they got it to me it was the wrong one so right now it doesnt have a choke cable hooked up but i tried just playing with that part of the throttle body and when i pushed it forward the idle didnt change, so i dont think that is what it is but im not sure.

It sounds like a cable has ended laying in a different spot, and its keeping the throttle body from closing all the way. Can you actuate it by hand? If so can you get the idle to drop that way? That will tell you if its the cable or something else.
Oh and welcome to the forums!

Ok i should have thought of that. Lol but i will give that a try and see what happens. And another question. I am still confused about how to make sure the chain slack is right. Any tips on how to do that? what type of measuring device to use and where to find the small pin they say you need to change whenever you take it off.

according to page 2-10, chain slack should be 25-30mm. Use your measuring tape against the swing arm with the chain in the slack position, measure it, then use your foot to push up the chain to measure how much it moved. If you think about it, motorcycles are pretty easy. Once that you know what 1 inch looks like, no measuring devices are needed. lol

good point prom. A new throttle grip that is not placed properly to allow a full throttle return can do this as well. (not the case but similar scenario), but a good point on checking your throttle snap back.

I made another post on this but just found this one. So like Prom said it needs to touch the idle screw. it does right were all the cables are. so it cant close anymore. but there is an idle screw in the middle of the throttle bodies and that was actually has some clearence. now since i cleaned my throttle bodies should i adjust the one next to the cables and make it go in and match it up with the other on?
