So I went and bought a new battery cause the old one sucked bad. It wasnt supposed to be dead yet! argh
Put the new one in, dropped electrolyte in, fired right up. I didnt and have never charged it like the instructions say to do. The instructions also say that charging at a rate more than 1amp WILL shorten the battery life so thats why I've been scared to charge batterys lately. So I've been running around for 4 days with just the alternator (or stator, whatever) charging it. I figured by now it might've charged it up a little but my lights still brighten when I rev it and dim out when idling. Should I charge it? The lowest my charger goes is 2amps. (2/4/6amps) (6/12v)

If you don't charge it; some batteries may NEVER see more than 80% of their total charge capacity capability if they are not fully charged initially.

...read that in a Hot Rod magazine a few years ago.

All of the manuals that I have witnessed say that the new bat should be charged 12-24hrs prior to using.

 

2 amps will be fine wont hurt it a bit charge them all the time at work
