Turbo/Super Charging

Turbo/Super Charging
Hi Just wondering what exactly the two do to your bike when you turbo and or supercharge your bike. What do you have to buy in order to do this and is it possible to turbo or super a Ninja 500 R?
-Thanks

RE: Turbo/Super Charging
Since there are no turbo kits available for a 500R, and supercharging isn't practical, (Don't see how supercharging could even be possible for a bike) you would have a LOT of money invested into it by the time it was all said and done.
Just do yourself a favor and get a larger cc bike. It would be more reliable, and probably faster anyway than a homebrew turbo on a 500R.

RE: Turbo/Super Charging
Turbo charging is using the force from the exhaust to spin an impeller to create higher pressures forcing more air into the combustion chamber making a denser fuel/air mixture. This makes a larger "explosion" in the combustion chamber, more HP. A super charger uses energy from the engine to achieve the same end. On a motorcycle a super charger is hard to mount because you have to make all kinds of crap to get to spin from the chain. I have seen it done before, but it isn't practical. A turbo is no less complicated, but easier to mount, and plumb.[sm=wakeup.gif]
You can put a turbo on your Ninja 500, but it will be a lot of money. You're going to need: a custom exhaust to mount the turbo on, the turbo charger (a very small turbo), waste gate, blow off valve, a custom plenum for the air to get in, low compression pistons, stronger connecting rods, a head spacer, top end work port/polish valve job, cams, and in most cases a oil filter relocation kit.
