sprocket trouble

Default sprocket trouble

I'm currently switching my sprocket and chain setup but I'm having a tough time removing the old front sprocket, i have someone applying the rear brake while i have it in gear and still the nut won't come loose just keeps turning the trans, anyone have any suggestions please really getting me frustrated It's 1998 zx6r

I would not suggest using the bike in gear to break a front sprocket. The forks are light weight and you may damage them. And if even with the rear brake on and the sprocket still turns, you have a bad brake setup as well. Normally, apply the rear brake, take your air impact (after you know that the sprocket nut washer is fully flattened) and take the nut off. Over in 30 seconds

the brakes are fine did use the impact and the Chilton says to have it in gear thanx anyway

I used a pole across the swingarm to stop spin (padded to prevent scratching). Air tool is a must, couldn't get mine off any other way. Need to leave old chain on to remove sprocket.

That's right. I had to use a 2x4 in the rear wheel on my first CS removal as well.
