Default Spark Plug Color

I just replaced my spark plugs with Iridium IX, before I did this the previous plugs were dark brown and I was going to turn the fuel air mixture screws in a little. Stock setting is 1.625 turns out, but has a dynojet which states 1.5 turns out. Leaving them at 1.625 with standard plugs was too brown w/some carbon.

I drove the Iridium plugs 100 miles and they are white.

Does anyone know if maybe I need to drive it longer for a plug color?

Thanks!

How do you like those Iridiums??

Plug color is more of a generalized spot to start troubleshooting, or for the overall general condition of running.. If you have a 100 miles and the plugs still look good, and you are that worried about it, run a dyno chart to fine tune...IMO...

This link will help you http://www.dansmc.com/Spark_Plugs/Sp...s_catalog.html

Now as far as DJ and turns they recomend 1.5 on all there kits LOL most need more like 2 to 3.5 turns to help on decell poping .

The new plugs are a improvement on buring fuel in the cylinder . We have seen 2 hp gains same day and bike on a Dyno with no other changes except new Iridium NGK plugs . That is a big gain for such an easy mod . your mixture screws also only affect
the first 25 % of throttle opening after that your on the needles and mains further up top .

Well, to start off with the origional plugs that were in the 2000 ZX9 were CR9E and not CR9EK like stock recomends. The CR9E plugs were a perfect color. When I purchased the bike, used, I put the CR9EK with dual electrodes, the CR9E were a single electrode. The dual's stayed in a lighter color state and that is why I went to the Iridium IX's. I was hoping they would be be similar to the CR9E's.

I'm also thinking that it's time for a valve adjustment and valve seals. When I remove the plugs, the outer edge and threads of the plug's seem to have a sticky oily residue on them. I hope that's all it is. The bike doesn't smoke at all or burn oil. I also had jsut recently changed to full synthetic oil and seemed to notice that after that.

So, whether or not I like the Iridium's has yet to be decided. All I want is my bike to run good like it used too. Engine seems a bit noisy and it's not a rocket anymore, but I doubt if it's plug related.

Thanks

Thanks for the link on the Plug state. I will keep that!

About the turning out the fuel/air mixture screws. At the Dynojet recomendation of 1.5 turns out, the CR9E plugs were kind of on the whiter side color. Then, with the same plug's at 1.625 turns, they were at the color of picture #7 below. Then after putting the Iridium IX plugs in, they look like picture #22.

Do you think because I changed to a hotter plug, they would need to be turned out a bit more?

Thanks,
