Default random stalling ZX12R

It has happened twice.About a month agowhen I went to fill up and then tried to re-start and the bike was dead. Very little pull from the battery. I had to get a push.

The second time was yesterday. I let it warm up for a few minutes then grabbed the throttle and wicked it up a little. When the rpms came back down, they didn't stop at idle. It stalled. I tried to push-start it myself but couldn't get the speed to turn the engine over in 1st.

So - Does the stalling for no apparent reason happen much?
Also - If the bike is stopped, should I be able to shift up to 2nd, 3rd and so on to make it easier to push-start? I was locked in 1st and could only shift to neutral.

The bike is in great shape and I plug it in to a tender every night.

Thanks

The bike needs to move a little bit in most cases in order to shift up or down. Just rocking the bike a little usually does it.

Does the bike have a hard time starting when it's cold?

I would check the battery and connections. But 2nd gear push starts worked the best for me.

Hmmm, why do you plug it in every night? That may be what's causing your problem. A decent charge on your battery should last at least a few weeks. If you charge too much, you will deplete the electrolyte and it won't hold enough charge to start the bike. If you're facing cold weather, just start your bike every few days and idle till warm. That will refresh the charge on the battery. When the weather gets real cold, take the battery out and bring it in the house or just make sure it doesn't freeze.
Even with the (auto on/off) tenders, you can toast a battery.

The bike starts fine when cold. No issue there.
The guy I bought it from gave me the auto on/off charger and said he's used them on all of his bikes. If it isn't a good idea, I'll stop plugging it in.

Thanks!
