RE: Press the start button...nothing (sometimes)
Back when I was young and stupid, I would wash my bike with soap and water like a car. The handle bar controls got wet and the starter button would not work or it would engage randomly until it was dry. I have since switched to just Honda Polish and a good rag. Any chance this is your problem ?
Also, 2003 was the first year for the ZX-RR version of the 600 cc bike.

happened to me a few times... took apart the switch (2 screws) cleaned all the contacts with a pencil eraser and or some 1000 sandpaper... never happened again so far.

Also, I'm assuming you're in neutral or at least have the clutch pulled all the way in when you try to start it... because I know my starter won't do anything if it's in gear, the sidestand is down, and the clutch isn't pulled all the way in...

Hmmm....I really have no idea what the neutral sensor looks like/where it is?
Could you please point out where it is....I know the neutral light is going on when it should...does this rule out this possiblity?
Thanks - Jutboy
