popping like popcorn
my bike is popping like pop corn when i down shift in all gears. and when i go to take off in first it seams like is has no ***** i have to rev it to like 3-4000 just to take off slowly and when i reach 3-4000 in any gear seems to run ok but has trouble going any higher than 4000 and has trouble accelerating in lower gears is pops a bit out the exhaust a couple times at a stop if you rev it it has some pretty good pops and bangsthis problem is pretty recent it ran pretty good it just pop downshifting but not to bad then last night driving home i noticed it got worse? is it my timing or carbs? it vibrates at higher rpms (5000)and sounds like a loose chain but it might be my keys rattling.

whoa! Lets make sure I am on the same page as others here. Timing on a ride. If it is the same as cars, then I have not played with that on the rides. I need a how to if that is the case.
Nothing has been mentioned if a bad tensioner has caused the chain to jump one tooth.

RE: popping like popcorn
you have a 750? is it a 96-03? if so it sounds like you need to change plugs, do the float bowl mod and clean and sycn ur carbs. the poping when decelerating is usually caused from the stuipd emmisions crap that differes the air pressure between the airbox, carbs and motor. i would also drain ur fuel tank and put fresh fuel in. if you don't have a zx7r the floatbowl mod won't help, but i would do the other things i mentioned.

RE: popping like popcorn
Thanx for the help guys i took off my points cover and checked to see my points gap and well there was no gap or barely a gap and all the screws inside the cover are stripped including the points screw but lucky for me i could get a flat head on it and it wasn't that tight, i adjusted the points with a matchbook and tightend the screw and gave her a kick and man she fired right up and idled. i have to charge the battery then i'll take it for a spin and see how it runs. THANX AGAIN this site has helped a bunch glad i'm a member.
