Default popping??

Hello all,
I am new to the forum, my name is Chris and i am from pittsburgh, pa. I just bought my first bike , a 95 ninja 500. I know it's not much, but it is in pretty good shape and it was a steal! I am an airplane mechanic, so i have a pretty good mechanical background but not much in the way of bikes. Sorry for all that... here is my question.... I know it is probably an easy fix. When i am riding... normally starting from a stop, i notice a popping sound coming from the chain area. I know it isn't motor trouble, because there is no loss of power. Anyone have any ideas?? Thanks for any help!

Can you feel it in the chassis when it pops? Like in the foot pegs or in the bars. Sounds to me like a worn/stretched chain... how far back are the slack adjustment bolts?

Does sound like a tight chain link or two.
