when it happened to me i reved a bit and the light went off after a few seconds. when you checked the sight glass the bike was up right and not on a stand right? im at a loss as to what is wrong. how full is the oil? the full mark is about 4/5 of the sit glass. i usealy make it so my sight glass is just barely full cause my bike burns a little oil. coul you had added to much oil?

Agree with Dragone; always prime your oil filters (car, bike, whatever) even if they're horizontal. Nasty things can happen during the time it takes a dry filter to process fresh oil. Also, don't over-fill your oil. Too much oil can cause the "soap-suds" look inside your motor. Especially on small engines like motorcycles, 4-stroke outboards, etc., the level is critical.
At the risk of being pedantic, you may want tore-do your oil change. (I would.)

sounds like an air pocket in the oil pump. would crack the oil filter when unit is idling and purge air out of circuit. be carefull not to loossen too much. if this does not work, raise the front of bike up about 2 feet and try this again. do let motor run too long. this should work.

Matt, check and see if the light is activated by oil level or pressure. My 2006 Vulcan 500 is a level (little arm) actuated light NOT pressure, according to the dealer. Good luck. Harry
