oil change on a 2007 zx6r
Hey all, im tired of paying $200 plus dollars for a dealer to do an an oil change. I finally have a rear stand and have gotten comfortable working on minor things on my bike. So now im going to venture into an oil change. My local shop has helped me alot with buying all the parts and oil, but I was wondering if anyone on here has done a change on a 2007 and could help with any insight, and/or if its different or harder than doing an oil change on a 2006.(which I have done). Thanks for your input.

ive not done the oil change myself. it looks tricky tho with the oil filter placement where it is. there must be some kind of tool to catch the mess[&:]a freind of mine told me to cut a peice of two liter bottle to fit in there and catch the mess. one guy told me to use tin foil to catch it. so let me know what you come up with pls..

tin foil is handy for making a custom little funnel to keep the oil off the headers as it drains down into your drain pan.
first oil change i did it just got all over the exhaust so i had to spray some carb cleaner on it to remove the oil.

yeah if the oil filter was over the headers that would be greatthey changed the location of the oil filter to the top of the motor instead of the bottom.

So did my oil change over the weekend, and the new placement of the oil filter is a pain to deal with compared to the 2006. But it is still doable and extremely easy once you locate it and get it loose. all in all pretty easy. thanks for all the input and help

No it wasnt messy, a little oil leaked from the oil filter when I was fighting it to get it off. I cleaned everything that I saw with a small rag and anything I missed was burned off from the heat of the engine. All is well and good on her now for another 3000 miles or so! I would suggest doing this task yourself, the oil and parts cost around $40.00-$50.00 depending on what filter and oil you get and it saves you and hour or so of paying them to do it. Also other note you only need to remove the riders left side plastics to do the oil change, and locate the filter which is now above the engive. GAY
