I'm a newbe, with a question. when I shift from 1st to 2nd, my shifter stays up, not
returning to the rest position.
I can't shift to 3rd without a light push down, before I can push up to 3rd.
Any suggestions?

welcome to KF!!
how tight is the linkage and bolt holding the lever on the pegmount
there may be something in there gumming up the bushing and not permitting a free movement on the lever..
i'd note the position of the lever, then remove the rod end or shifter shaft rod connector from the shifter shaft (the splinedshaft coming out of the motor) giv the lever a good working to eliminate it, or prove it as the culprit.
if it's the lever thats sticking, then lube the hell out of the bushing, and inspect the torque, and see if that helps.
if the lever feels fine, you may have a internal problem with the shift mechanism or trans...
good luck!

Thank you for your help.
I got lucky, this time. Upon close inspection of the area around the lever, I found scrathes on the frame where the lever was hanging-up.
I re positioned the lever and did a little bending, and the problem is gone.
