New To Bikes, Engine stalling???
I recently pruchased a 05 Ninja 250, 8200 miles, i have rode it now for about 500 miles, and today the bike started to act up about 30 min, of riding it. It started lacking in power and slowly started to stall, it wasn't until i down shifted into third that i finally stalled. I sat on the side of the road for a minute and it started back up, it sounded like it was missing at first, but then cleared up and ran like new again, I thought it was a fluke? Later this afternoon i took the bike back out, this time it was worse, the bike shut off at 60mph, 6th gear. I sat for about 4-5 minutes, fired it back up and ran it for about a mile before having to do it all over again, until i made it to a safe place to park the bike for a while. But i ended up having to truck the bike back home. And now i am at a total loss. When i purchased the bike (4 weeks ago today) The man said he had changed the plugs, oil, and oil filter. and i honastly believe him, the bike was really kept clean. Please if anyone can help. I cant spend a couple hundred dollars right now to get the bike fixed. Thanks, Bobby
I forgot to add that except for the last time it stalled when i had to truck it home, i could pull the choke and get it to run between 4000-6000 rpm, but if you push the choke back, the engine would just stall back off?

RE: New To Bikes, Engine stalling???
sounds alot like fuel starvation..
maybe the pump is taking a crap, or you have a plugged high speed circuit or stuck float in your carbs..
someithing fuel related i think..
don't think its a thermal defect of any sort... sounds like its usually under load for a bit when it happens?
try running the bike an equal distance under a lower load, like at a lower RPM and higher gear (if possible).. do what you can to try and be conservative withthe throttle.
if this seems to make a difference, thne it's certainly fuel starvation..then, all ya need to do is find out why..
keep us postd, and welcome to KF!!

RE: New To Bikes, Engine stalling???
Well i havn't checked the air filter yet, spent all day working on a deck, But i did have a chance to run the bike up my road and back, ran about a mile, low rpm, high gear, when i got back to my house the bike started to stall again. And just like normal, i waited around 1-5min and fired it back up, i didn't take it for another ride but, i will check the air filter. I noticed when i took off the seat that there is quite a build up of dust going into the box, (i live on a partial dirt road, and the humidity has been up the past couple of days, Eastern North Carolina weather sucks.)

RE: New To Bikes, Engine stalling???
Ther are many issues that can cause this particular problem. However, before going any further, you need to check the venting on the fuel tank. If the tank vent is blocked it will cause a vacumm in the tank as fuel is used. This will cause a drop in fuel pressure and the bike will begin to loose power and then stall out all together. If the vent is clear, then check fuel filter and fuel lines for blockages.

RE: New To Bikes, Engine stalling???
Ok, first off i am sorry to all who's time I have wasted, also, like i said before i am new to bikes. I just found out today that the little bit of gas that was left in the tankwas probably for the reserve. So i put some gas in the tank, and now it runs like new. [X(]Thanks to all who helped. This is a fix that i hate to tell people about.
