I was wondering what the weight of stock oem wheels were vs marchesini forged aluminums. Supposedly I'll save about 5 - 10 lbs with March?

i guess it depends on the type of rims you're gettin from marchesini... you can definitely expect an unsprung weight loss tho with high perf aftermarket rims like that. your stock rims are cast aluminum, while the aftermarket stuff tends to start life as a billet piece, and whittled down on a CNC.. its stronger, therefore, spokes and hubs can be made thinner, thus making itlighter...even tho the density of the billet is higher than that of its cast counterpart.

Several years ago, I had some Marvics on my old '86 Gxxr. (Supposedly, these were the last Marv's that Jimmy Adamo imported to GiaCoMoto before his fatal crash. I still have a christmas card from his wife.) Yeah, they were lighter (yes, I know you're talking about March's here, guys...) andthe bike felt considerably lighter and quicker in the steering department. Of course, the old Gxxr was already lighter than my tubby old 9, even before the Marvics!! (The Marv's were magnesium; March's are aluminum.)
I'm amazed at the variety of aftermarket stuff available now, that several years ago was just a dream. It's almost TOO easy to trick-out a bike with really cool parts. (But also expensive!)

i know. i wish i would've patented carbon fiber rims before they actually hit the market and got popular with bikes and exotics.[&o]i'm sure i conceived the thought well before they became available as a mass-produced component. oh well..

but yeah, who woulda thought of c.f. rims... or magnesium? i cant wait to see the next great step in metallurgy and composites.

Carbon Fiber BST i believe is the best way to go. Supposedly 30% lighter than marvs. and so on % for stock. I can pick them up WITH THE TIRE with one finger comfortably. Best $4000.00 you can spend.
