loose cord on my 500r!
I just got home today and noticed a cord under my bike when I parked. I prayed it wasn't attached but alas it was. It comes out of the bottom of the left front fork. I ran it up into near the handlebars to get it out of the way and see wehre it reached and it didn't quite reach up to the handlebars. the tip looks kind of like one of the plugs in the three plug audio/video cords that go into your dvd player but the tip is longer. Anyway, I don't know what this cord does or where it is supposed to connect and I'm terrified to ride with it disconnected. The only funny thing I noticed on my 10 block ride home was I felt something like a delayed throttle response a couple of times, but I thought that might just be the cold temperature.
any ideas on where this goes, and how it could have come loose? I am new to motorcycles and no nothing about maintenance! I've only had this bike for 500 miles/2 weeks. Any advise would be great. I will look at it again in the morning light.

RE: loose cord on my 500r!
hmm, I dunno. Was thinking what at the front of the ride besides the headlights would require a 3 wire molex? The horn, sigs, clutch switch, fan ect I think are only a 2 wire molex.

RE: loose cord on my 500r!
I just went down to it and had the same thought (speed/odo cord) because it was coming out of the left side of the front wheel hub where nothing much was and it was a relatively thin cord. Sure enough there was an empty hole under the speedometer and I recalled hitting 499 miles on my trip odometer while I was riding to class yesterday and it still says 499. I just hope I routed it appropriately. I'll take it easy riding to school this morning and see if it looks to be working. Thanks for the help. It was such as relief to realize 1) it wasn't crucial and 2) I could fix it! let's hope I'm not counting my chickens too soon.

Broken Speedometer Cord
It was the speedo cable, but I think I routed it wrong andit was already worn at the bottom and the bottom cracked open and now the speedo doesn't work. The way I routed it, it rubbed against the left side of the for, especially if turning right. There is a hook that I thought might be used for keeping it in line, but putting it through the hook seemed to just make it rub against the right side of the fork (at least when turning the bars left) and I couldn't get it to reach going through there anyway.
So I've disconnected it. I have a couple questions:
1) where can I buy a new one?
2) is there anything I need to do besides disconnect the cord to make sure the apparatus isn't causing me any problems?
3) when I get a new one, how can I find out the proper way to route it.
thanks, folks
