The '83 KZ550 A I just bought has a nasty and way too loud 4-into-1 header on it. I want to replace it with a factory 4-into-2 unit, but can only find those from an LTD listed on Ebay.

Will the LTD pipe fit the A? I assume there may be a need for some muffler bracket changes, but other than that can they be swapped?

Any thoughts or ideas where I can get the proper pipes will be grest!

What exhaust are you running right now?

 

It's a four-into-one black unit with no badges or emblems. They guy I bought it from seemed to think it was a Vance and Hines. I hope to find something alot quiter because this one gives ME a headache when I ride, who knows about the rest of the world.

Any input would be great.

Try replacing fiberglass packing and the center baffle tube. If I had to guess, I would say these items have been removed. (I'm sure there are a few members who would have these items in their garage; they could send to you.) If you DO replace them, you'll likely need to re-jet.
It's the cheapest alternative, if the current pipe fits OK.
Just my 2 cents.

 

May also be Kerker since they were big in that time frame. Replacing the packing is maybe a two hr job total. Not bad. You have any pictures of the setup?

I hadn't thought of replacing the glass in the muffler but that would certainly quiet things down a bit. Sadly the entire exhaust is skanky and rusty, so I'd still like to replace it with some more attractive, and that's why I asked about the fit of other KZ/GPz/Ltd units.

Anyone have their glass baffle material still laying around? I'd be happy to buy it from you...
