Default Kind of chugging 2001 9R

Whenever I am riding in lower gears at set speed the bike seems to chug chug chug, like it is not a smooth steady speed. High speed is ok, as is acceleration. Even when changing down gears it is ok all the way to a stop. Just cant ride at say steady 40kph in second without that jerking feeling.Any help appreciated, guys.

Bad gas, crud in primary jets, fuel filter (maybe), vacuum lines, carb sync, good spark-fresh plugs,....the usual suspects. I'd start there.

Default chugging along

Thanks, I guess my week end is spoken for this week. However I can discount bad gas, full tank of fresh fuel just added.

I think plugs are ok as it starts at the touch of the button and idles perfectly and never misfires.

And that leaves vacuum lines and dirty jets

Anyway of doing carb sync at home?

Default another question

fuel petcock. What are the positions of this thing ? There are no markings on mine to tell me what is "run" "reserve" "off" although I do not think there is an "off " I have checked forums but nobody gives a simple explanation.

I'm making a guess, here, OK? Sitting on my '95 zx9, if I drop my left hand to the petcock ****, I turn counter-clockwise toward front of the bike for "On." See photo. I know yours is an '01, but I would think it should be similar; I wouldn't see the factory twiddling with something simple. Thinking out loud, ergonomically, it makes more sense to have the **** turn this direction--for the rider--if you're rolling down the road. I may be thinking too hard, though.

Default petcock

At least you have a mark on the frame.I have nothing that I can see to tell me what is what. At the moment I am running with it vertically. I just checked again and there are three positions none of which are "off". Which I understand is not an option on this bike. How about user manual ? Anywhere I can download it ?

Here you go....
12 o'clock---Reserve
3 o'clock---Off
6 o'clock---On
From a very reliable source....

(Is that carb, or fuel injected?)

If it's a carbureted bike, the 3 o'clock position is "prime."
