kawasaki klf 300 no spark
hi, I've got a 91 Kawasaki KLF 300 with no spark. It shut down on me and a square black box under the seat was smoking. Guessing this is the CDI? Any way of checking this out and also checking the voltage regulator? Any other ideas are appreciated also thanks

RE: kawasaki klf 300 no spark
Thanks Si
I have located a second hand CDI. The Bike Dismantler said I could try it and return for a $20 fee if I have misdiagnosed the problem. Will keep you posted. I dont see any other CDI issues on this site but the local shop has had 3 guys in this week wanting one so I may be onto something. My bike is a 250R they tell me, this could have a different CDI to alot of you guys which may explain why there is no similar postings.

it was the white smoke that was the give tell tail sign of a reg/rec problem ,it's happened to a couple of machine I've had (I've had about 35 in the last 26yrs riding).
think is sometimes when they go wrong they can burn out the cdi box too, so if you can get hold onto that until you have a new reg/rec fitted, then if you get no joy try the cdi box with the new reg/rec, should sort the problem
