I am having some trouble with my ltd 440........ it wont stay running. we took the carbs apart and cleaned them all out making sure everything works the way it should be. But now when we get it started the idle will just start to race.. .any idea how to stop this?

I had the same thing happen to me the other day on the same bike as yours. I noticed that I didn't have the blow-by hose connected to the airbox & when I connected it, the problem was sovled.

Have to ask obvious, do you know where the idle adjustment is?

When you did the carb clean did you tear them down and remove all the jets, pilot and mains 8 total. Is your choke cable reconnected correctly?

That brings up a good point. The emission crap on the older bikes may have something to do with it. Check those air/vacuum lines closely. spray starting fluid around them to see if the engine changes speed.
