How do I get my Kawi running?
I have a 1981 Kawasaki 250 CSR, and it will not start. It's been sitting for a few years from what I gathered from the people I bought it from. It turns over, all the lights work, but it just won't fire over. I hooked up a test light to the spark plug wire, and nothing lights up. Although, the wires going into the coil light up. I threw another coil onto it, and still the same happens, and no fire. It needs a new battery, and I don't know if the coils are that voltage-sensative to need a new battery, but for now I have it turning over with just the charger hooked up to an old battery. The gas line has a filter on it, so I wouldn't think that the carb could be the problem. I smell gas when I turn it over, so I know it's getting gas. I just can't get it to fire over.
If anyone has any expertise on this I would greatly appreciate it.

Clean the carbs. If it was sitting for that long the carbs could be plugged. Remove one of the spark plugs, and watch it as you fire it up look for the spark. The spark may be hitting too fast for the light. Start with the three basics of any engine. Fuel, air, spark. Work from there. Also, you can spin the engine a couple of times, then remove a spark plug... see id it's wet, or smells of gas. That will let you know if you are getting fuel.
