Default Helping out a friend

I was trying to help a friend get a 87 Ninja 750 running. It has been sitting outside for 5 / 6 years. We know it needs the carbs boiled out, the tank cleaned, new fuel lines and filter plus oil but we are having another problem.
When you turn the key on the lights all light up on the instrument cluster as expected but when you hit the start button nothing happens.
This is what we have done.
I bypassed the kick stand switch and I jumped the solenoid from the battery and the motor turns over. We know we have 12 volts at the Kill switch and when we click it to run we have 12 volts on one side of the start button. When we press the start button we have 12 volts leaving the switch all the way back to (what the manual calls) the junction box, on the black / red wire. It looks like there is a starter circuit relay built in to the junction box from what the book is showing me . I cant see an external relay on the junction box, so I am assuming its built in to it???
Where is this elusive Starter Circuit Relay??
The book says thats what should be happening. But we have no voltage leaving the junction box on the yellow / red, which goes to the starter solenoid.

Whats next???

yeah, everything is built into the junction box, pg 15-36 in the manual. (Fan, starter circuit and Headlight Relay Inspection). Fan Relay- meter connection is 2-5, 4-5, Headlight connection is 7-8, 7-13, Starter Relay connection 11-13, 12-13. All will read infinity with the battery disconnected.

with the battery connected, the readings will show 0 with fan connection 2-5, headlight 7-8, starter 11-13

good luck on the project and sometimes a bigger rubber mallet works on the J-box.

We did try holding the start button and tap the junction box. But hey man thanks for the advice. I see some other devices up near the nose and I didnt want to get into that if I didnt have too.
Do you think its worth looking in to the neutral switch or the starter lockout switch for should he get a bone yard junction box?
