Default Help! ZX7r

Hi guys, i'm new here!

Got a smallish problem with my zx7r.

I only picked the bike up last week.

The bike seems to choke up when at high speeds for a long time. (120 mph) It appears to be starved, and the revs wont go past 7000. After pulling over and letting it settle for a minute, the bike fires as normal and is then fine again?

Please note - the bike revs cleanly through everygear up to 100mph no problems, but any faster for an extended period of time causes this problem.

My friend suggested it could be the air filter - an easy fix i know, ut i havent had chance to check it yet, so any other thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

BIke has done 31k with service history - clearerences were apparently done at 26k.

Many thanks

Simon

Congrats on the new ride and welcome to KF

There are a lot of reasons listed in the manual, but generally it is the basic stuff like that air filter idea, the fuel filter, spark plugs, or even a carb boot that is loose causing an air leak.

Good luck

could also be a fuel supply issue, at those speeds it takes alot of gas if your filter cant keep up, floats aren't set right, or if your close to hitting the reserve your engine might cut out which as you probably guess by now can be dangerous at those speeds. Let us know what you find.
Gear up, Ride Safe, and Welcome to KF!

Thanks for the replies guys,

However, the problem has gotten much worse.

After about 10 minutes or so of riding, the engine begins to struggel then eventually dies off, as if starved of fuel.

But after a couple of minutes, it will restart and then do the same after another 10 minutes or so.

I'm beginning to worry it's a valve problem....

Off to the garage today then!

Thanks

If its fuel starvation I doubt its a valve problem. Have you checked your tank vents, fuel petcock, filter, pump, and floats? What have you found?

I would rebuid the carbs at your own pace and learning curve. I tend to agree on fuel/carb related at the moment.
