HELP!!! thread (timing)
Getting my 250 engine back together and I am having a mind**** time with the... timing. I put in the camshafts, get everything on the exhaust side and intake side synched with the 2tdc mark, then put on the chain pulling the slack from the exhaust side and wrapping over the camshaft and then over the intake shaft. Counted 33 pins on the chain from the EX to IN marks which line up with the surface of the head. Everything seems good...
Then I bolt everything down and put in the cam shaft tensioner, and when i rotate the engine through the stator (clockwise), every rotation the chain seems to slip almost, and i get a good deal of slack between the camshafts, then keep rotating, it tightens up, and then again it goes loose. I DONT GET WHAT IM DOING WRONG. I tried fiddling with the cam chain guide on the exhaust side, pushing it down a little to get some more tension on the chain but it seems as far down asit should be according to the manual. I just don't understand, I wanna get my bike up so badly, I'm dying inside not being able to ride!

i figured that, but i dont know where to look, how would i check the tensioner? its bolted in but how do i know if its putting the amount of tension it should be on the chain?

RE: HELP!!! thread (timing)
maybe the timing chain is streached and needs replaced, id start with that... as a general rule the tensioner doesnt go bad.... you could geta new tensioner spring if you want..... my bet is on the timing chain.....

RE: HELP!!! thread (timing)
I'm not sure if this is the source of my problem, but I was so tired last night trying to figure this out I forgot to unscrew the lock screw on the tensioner and set the push rod inside... I just kinda plopped everything in and tightened it....... very tired.
Anyways, the lock screw isn't coming out so I'm currently going to dremel off the top and extract the threading and buy a new screw. Could this be the problem though, that I forgot to set the lock screw in the push rod?
