Default help with starting

i have a 95 zx6r. sometimes when i go to start it starts right up after like 3 turn overs. then sometimes it takes like 15 seconds to start and i was wondering if it might be a starter or a relay. i just got a new battery.

Matt, don't sit on the starter for longer than about "1-2-3-4." Odi may be onto something, if it's been awhile since your last plug change. Worn electrodes don't fire as efficiently. Might also double-check the heat range of your plugs. What do they look like at the electrode; what color? I suspect it's a fuel delivery issue; just a momentary delay in getting to the cylinders. If you have a fuel filter, you might check it. Might be just a touch of gunk in your bowls or your jets, especially if it has set for any length of time. Gas tends to lose it's spunk in Kaw's (this vintage) because of the carb angle and because they're pretty well vented. I have the same sort of issue in my '95 9r on rare occasions.

Default help

ok. last week it started perfect every day then this week it does this. i know the plugs are good i changed them bout 400 miles ago and they are light brown. but when i hook the bike up to a battery charger it starts after 2 turn overs. with a 40 amp push. i just changes the battery that helped some. i think that it deals with the electroal. it runs great when started but it is the starting that sucks. ps. it dosent do this all the time. it mostly does it wheni turn it of for bout 5 min then try to start it. that is why i thought it was a relay.

ok, if the battery is weak the relay will just click correct? But if you prove that you have the correct power to the relay and it is still not making a good connection to the starter, then yes think about a relay issue.
