ok,
Bike has 20024 miles on it. Bolts on top of heads indicate prior removal, so I am assuming (I know, bad word) that they were adjusted at some point.
Tore the carbs apart one more time. Soaked everything I could, carb cleanered everything else. Blew everything dry. Re-assembled and now it will fire up, idlewithout choke and then putter out after about 30 seconds.
Today (9/17/07) it went to a local shop for some professional help:
carbs cleaned/fixed/adjusted
oil change
complete lube
fuel petcock rebuilt
state required mechanical inspection
Will either be back by Friday or the middle of next week, depending on parts needed ready to ride.
Can't wait!

Naw, im going to have to say valves are fine, he never said anything about them ticking, so their not loose, and when it did start it wouldnt take throttle, and it would start on the Enrichner circuit, so the starting issue was the carbs, not the valves being too tight, leads me to say valves are a-ok

Well........................Good news and bad news.
Carbs are set. Bike idles well and revs up well.................no gas tank.
Shop would not install the tank or warrenty the work if it goes back on. It is rusted and has been lined before.
I have already taken the M.E.K. and muratic acid to it. ALL of the old liner is gone and the rust is cleaned out. It is hanging with a fan blowing through it to get it REALLY dry.
Have to get new can of liner for it on Monday, if the place I got it before still has some in stock. If not, will have to order it in.
Plan to line it and then run it by the shop so they can see how it looks, then install it and take it back for the inspection.
If it's not one thing it is another. (at least MY labor is cheap)
