Default Gpz500 problem

Hi all, hopefully someone can help,
Im asking on behalf of my dad who has just rebuilt the engine on his Gpz500, its an M reg. He had the head reskimmed, we put it all back together fine, filled it with oil, then the we filled it with water, however it took some water but then it started leaking out from 2 small holes, 1 on either side of the cylinder block, now im assuming there is supposed to be something in these holes, (core plugs or similar?) they are pretty small holes between the fins on the block, we think something may of come out while it was at the shop been re-skimmed?
Can anyone shed some light on what should be in the holes and where we could get some?
Thanks in advance.
