Gas in oil *Newb question*
hi, i just bought my first motorcycle from my uncle, the bike is a 2000 vulcan 500 that has been sitting in his garage for about a year, when i got it home i started to change the oil and i noticed it was VERY thin and had a extreme gas smell, i figured it was just because it sat for so long, i flushed it all out with some new oil and then filled her back up.
my question is, is that normal to get so much gas in the oil or is there some seals i have to replace? and how can i make sure gas is still not going into the oil?

RE: Gas in oil *Newb question*
Hi, no there shouldn't be any gas in the oil & if you can light it, then it's a bit of fuel getting in there somehow. I would start with the carbs and clean them up thoroughly. I'm not sure but I've also seen the vacuum valve cause problems like this too. Not sure how your bikes setup.
One thing that would tell you if it's the vacuum valve, if you have one, is after the bike is hot, and you turn it off. Take off the tank and see if fuel is dumping nto the cylinders. I'm not sure how your bike is setup, I'd have to do some research.
