most carburatos that i've run into other than garden tools still need a fuel pump and want anywhere from 3-8psi (atleast from my autoomotive experience)

my 95 zx6r is carbed and has a fuel pump.

bingo

when pumps start to go bad they will still flow gas if disconnected btu when connected can't maintain pressure at higher flow rates required (start starving the motor at higher rpm)

I'm sorry for the confussion, the only one that didn't have a fuel pump was theZx 600r. Both of the zx6 and zx6r had fuel pumps.

Just a standard fuel pressure gauge really depending on the pressure involved. You may need to McGyver it so that the fitting will fit the hose.
