Default Fuel overflow...

Our 600 Eliminator has always run great! We went out today to go for a ride and the gas tank had emptied all over the garage. Any thoughts? We did notice that the pecock had gotten fliped to reserve. Could this have caused it to overflow? Other than that everything looked okay. It has never leaked before. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Mt

prolly a good thing to look up when checking your setup.

edit: if the petcock was open ie reserve, I normally keep mine in reserve. Then it is bad needles. as mentioned by RonInFla

Carburator float needles are worn out, and won't properly stop fuel flow.
Also, always turn petcock to off when parked.
