front wheel dent
Hello Everybody,
I have a question about a front wheel dent on my 05 ZZR600 and the best way to take care of it. So to get it out of the way since you'll want to know how it happened.... Idiocy. I pulled a weelie last year and came down harder than planned, in a pothole. Like I said, idiocy. But anyways, the rim is dented. Not creased at all, but just a tiny dent. It doesn't cause any wobbling or change the way it handles at all, but the tire looks like it's pulling off a bit and I don't want to take a chance on having a blowout.
So here's my q.... since it's not creased and it's so slight I think it could be fixed. Maybe pounded out by someone who knows what they are doing. What do you guys think? New rims are about 4-500 bucks, so any way that I can save some $ sounds good to me.
If you don't think that it could be fixed, could you suggest ideas on finding a used wheel. I've done the web searches and ebay, but thinkgs look pretty slim. I appreciate any help you can gve me. Thanks!

I know this is an ancient thread, but I guess Ill ask the same question again to see if anyone has any new news. Kinda same thing happened to me, except I didnt do anything other than ride normaly and hit a pothole. I was passing a semi to the right, doing about 90, began to swing back left in the lane and saw a pothole about the size of Texas and knew I was gonna hit it. I tried to sit the bike up straight but was still leaning a little to the left and smashed it, speed wobbles from hell for about 2 seconds, about threw me over the handlebars, life flashing before my eyes, waiting for the *** to step out from what I thought was an inevitable blowout (thank god it didnt). Wheel isnt that bad, but it's got a pretty decent flat spot on the rim and know it can be repaired. I live in Omaha NE and have yet to find a place locally that fixes motorcycle alloys. Found a few places online, one in Colorado and another in Ohio. Just curious if anyone has sent their wheels out for a similar service or if they have any recomendations on where to send it. Like I said, I know this thread is ancient, so sorry for that, but Im with the guy in the first post, i dont feel like shelling out $400+ on a new/used rim. Thanks

Look in the back of Cycle World or Motorcyclist or probably any other magazine. There are companies that straighten out bent wheels. Call one and see what the cost might be. It can be done and they will only do it if it can be done safely.

SB-636- no worries on the ancient thread. Glad that you brought it up to light again.
Bummer on the ding, but yes there are companies that will straighten the rim. (That is why the rims are aluminum and not carbon fiber for track use. ) I do not have a recommendation on any companies however. But e-bay has them for $50 or so. Just a thought. Good luck on the fix.
