Default female rider needs mechanical help

i have a 99 vulcan classic. the other night i rode home and in the am there was a puddle of oil under my bike. i then noticed i had blown oil all down the right side of bike. found out oil was coming from the carb and that it was loose. changed oil and tightned the carb. when i went to start it, noticed gas was running out from somewhere, took tank off and found gas was running out of fuel pump around edges where it is crimped together. i was going to buy a new one but my friend said open it and look at diafram so we did and it looked fine, so he said maybe it was just loose and he crimped it back together tight. havent put it back on bike yet to try it. what do you guys think do you think it can be crimped back tight to work? i hate my bike being down. thanks if anyone has any thoughts or suggestions...sharon

I would say its worth a shot. You have nothing to lose but a little bit of time.Did you notice it was loose when you took it off?

I'm not sure about oil leaking all over, but to me, it sounds like maybe an external oil line is leaking. (That is if your bike has any external lines.)

Or, did you just put oil in the bike? If so, you may have over filled it causing oil to blow out of the crank case vent tube into the air filter housing, which will get sucked into the carbs.

For the carburettor leaking gas, that would be the floats not shutting off the fuel flow when it should. Common reasons would be worn out float needle(s), sticking float, mis-adjusted float, rust, or other crap getting stuck between the float needle and seat.

well you guys crimped it a little more and the dang thing still has gas coming out of it. a man had to of designed these things. ew wee guys i bet you liked that one. seriously if there is a chance of something leaking-wouldnt ya think there would be a better way to design it-or is this just a have to buy make money thing. like maybe since there is two sides of the tank that hold gas and you need that stupid pump because of gravity why not just have a fuel switch on both sides, maybe one for reserve. im just soiritated, i wanted to ride my bike tonight, tomorrow, heck all weekend.geez i dont have a HD. well i bought the repair manual on ebay-its downloading-this ought totake awhile, but maybe i can learn something. couldnt find a manual for blondes....see i play fair--cheap shot to myself heheheh

I was looking at the fiche for your ride. Question though, how and where did you "crimp" things? Looking at the pump, just had to ask.

well the fuel pump has these prongs that go around the middlewhere it was leaking actually, so another words it looks like when they made it being it is two pieces put together it was probably presses tight and clamped tight with some kind of machine. anyway tightened it as much as poss. and it still leaks when you start the bike sooooooooo took the thing off and bypassed it--havent rode the bike yet but it starts up, no leaks, moved the hose down as far as poss, so it lays flatter. what do you think? will it work? i read where a guy wrote he bought his new took the tank off and his was never hooked up to begin with?????? and he had been riding it for 4 years no problems. im not going to hurt my bike if i try to ride it like this am i. now im getting nervous. i will prob end up buying a new one just so its back to normal i guess, but i hate putting out the 200.00 bucks for one right now.
